The so call BETHROVAL CEREMONY...
For those who do not know what it means, here is a little explanation I can provide:
It is usually done 1 to 2 weeks before wedding day when the groom's family deliver cash and gifts to the bride's house. After receiving, bride's family has to say prayers for blessings from the gods and ancestors..
This is the traditional bethroval ceremony..
So being a Chinese and having a Teochew & Hokkien family, we carried out our Bethroval Ceremony yesterday, 08/07/2007.
And I'm happy we actually did it so traditionally.. Because 7 out of 10 couples nowadays do not go through all these "hassles".. But I find it interesting though... It's a cultural thing, I'm actually proud to go through all these..
The bride and the groom shouldnt be arriving at the bride's house together. So the bride (ME) took a bus ride home myself early yesterday morning.. haha.. cute right. hahah..
Then baby together with his brother and one of his auntie went to collect the wedding cakes, oranges, traditonal teochew biscuits, some sweets etc etc...
which actually made up 2 large "baskets":
so they loaded the 2 HUGE baskets full of all the traditional stuff and oranges..
the box on top of the oranges is my "4-dot gold" (pronounce in chinese) given by my mum-in-law..
the envelope above the red box is the dowry cash! woo-hoo!!
Then off they went to my place.... we were all waiting....
I keep forgetting to take pictures, so ended up with not so many pictures actually..
but here are some of what came as gifts..
2 huge bottles of Martell, 12 oranges, my gold...
all the traditional biscuits and stuff... so many i can't even differentiate..
but according to my dad, there're a total of about 6 or 7 varieties, each comes in quantity of 10..
my elder sister with lovely lil avril..
cute avril with the sour orange... yucks. =P
my big aunt brought some of the stuff over to her place where my ancestors' tablets are to do some praying...
this is cousin a.k.a. baby yiyi (btw, i am pretty yiyi) with the biscuits.. she wanna have a photo taken with the so many red packaged biscuits..
she cant hold 'em all, cuz she only has 2 hands. haha.
Then the bride family has to give the bride some gifts to bring over to the groom's family.
so here are the stuff my parents prepared..
SUPER TRADITIONAL..
i dont even think i wil use any of them.. hahhaha
a 20-cent coin size of a pound pedant with a gold chain from my parents..
a diamond necklace from my god-ma
one bolster + 2 pillows...
a bathtub used by babies, a washing board, a pair of clogs.. -.-"
from left to right:
a basin, a potty wrapped in the wrapper and below it is a red stool..
here is what is in the "hamper" as well..
from left to right:
two cups for brushing teeth, a set of teapots, a couple figurine (in the red box behind), a pair of bed-side lamps, and a musical cabinet for jewelery..
i find this packaging the nicest...
but what's inside are actually threads, needles... sewing kit..
hahaha.
come to me if u need ur button sewn, ur zip repaired!
hahha..
I HAVE A SEWING KIT!
I would probably empty everything inside and use the box for my cosmetics.. =P
my gold from my mum-in-law...
its pure gold. but u would probably see me wearing this when i'm at least 50, or never. haha.
But thanks to both my parents and my parents-in-law for all the gifts and preparation done to make the bethroval ceremony possible.. it's a very interesting occassion and i truly enjoyed it..
Special thanks to my big aunt, 3rd aunt for participating and helping out...
I love my family. My WHOLE family.
Heartfelt thanks for my dad..
Pa, you're the greatest! I love you.
