Alvis' 1st Lunar Birthday & Aidan's Party

Today is Alvis' 1st birthday in the Lunar Calendar..
生日快乐 my baby..
Though I'm not a very traditional person and I actually got to know about his Lunar Birthday from Ling (keira's mummy) as Keira is 2 days older than Alvis, she celebrated her on Thursday and so Alvis' is today then. =)

As this is my first time preparing a 1st Lunar Birthday..
I was very busy the whole day.. Right from the moment we woke up..

First, it was to the market...
I needed to buy a 鸡腿 a.k.a chicken drumstick, celery, ang ku kuehs, veggies for Alvis' porridge and pork for his porridge broth....
So, as I was queuing at the market stalls, hubby took photos of Alvis before his hair cut...

Hubby loves Alvis' long hair....
But Alvis baby's hair long needed a cut.
We planned to cut his hair today as we're both not working..
And Ling also told me that it's auspicious to have a hair cut on their lunar birthday...
so... just nice! =D

Alvis watching the kids playing at the playground..
Soon you'll be able to join them, my dear..

His long side burns are neatly tucked behind his ear.. haha..

The salon opens at 10am...
We're the 1st customer. hehe..
Alvis waiting for them to set up the salon for opening..

"Mummy, cut nice nice hor..."

"Ahhhhh... auntie, what are you doing to my nice nice hair!!"

Baby's new haircut on his 1st Lunar Birthday.. =)

Hope it gives a good head start to everything in life.. =)

After that we went home, Alvis napped while I was busy in the kitchen preparing the stuff that I needed to offer to gods and ancestor..

This is Alvis after his porridge lunch, waiting for the 'ceremony' to begin..
haha....
Naked.
because the weather was hot, the daddy stripped him. hehe..

"Yay! It's FUN time soon!"

Okay...
Here was what I did..

I need to have RED EGGS..
so I had to have hard-boiled eggs..
6 of them..

Dyed them RED....

It was my first time doing it with my own hands..
Though I've seen RED eggs very frequently at home for the past 22+years...
This is my first time doing 'hands-on' =P

With some help from hubby...

Tah-Dang!!

PLaying in his Thomas and Friends ball pit..

Look at that bulging tummy..
hahah..

Okay.
We were ready.
The right food at the right place..
We offered to god..
To my grandmother....

The red eggs, and chix to my grandmother...

The beautiful oranges....

and celery....

and ang ku kuehs to god...

the daddy and Alvis prayed....
Prayed for Alvis' good health.. and that his life be smooth-sailing.. and he'l always be an obedient boy to daddy and mummy...

He must be eyeing that chix..

Then,
it is Chinese belief that on their 1st Birthdays, whatever they pick will more or less determine what they'll do for the future...
Some choices for them were a calculator that represents a career in science, sethoscope (in this case I used a thermometer) represents a career in medicine..
celery which means they'll be hardworking..
Ang bao with money means good wealth..
Pen represents literary arts, writer, scholar or journalist..
stamps represents high ranking officials..
orange means good fortune...

Alvis 1st picked a pen, that he held super close and tight for quite awhile....

Then he picked the stamps....

Then he meddled with the celery...

'Plucked' one stalk up some more... hahaha...

haha... playing like a sword?

Handed to daddy..
Yes, Alvis will be a hardworking boy..
No matter in which career, I believe as long as you're hardworking, baby, you'll go a long way.. =)

Still holding tight to the pen...

Then he picked one orange..

And happily played with it..
Totally ignored the camera...

The pen and the orange..
for super long..
haha..

Daddy: COme Alvis, give daddy the orange...

Alvis: Nooo DADDY! This is my FORTUNE! haha..

"I'm gonna take the pen and the orange and turn away from daddy!"
oops, mummy caught u on camera.. hee..

Next, we let alvis had a 'bite' on the chicken drumstick..
He didnt really fancy that...
Probably he just had his lunch...

Then a bite of the egg..
Which represents roundness...

I still love the pen...

"and orange, you better not go anywhere, stay here!"

We 3 had fun playing around at home...
It was thus a successful 1st Lunar Birthday celebration..
I believe for the years to come, I'll be better at preparing it.. =)

At around 3+pm, we left to proceed to Aidan's 1st Birthday Party at Great World City..
I feel it's a wonderful venue for holding kids' party.. =)
the kids are entertained and there are alot of toys around....

Alvis in his party hat..
SO cute..

Aidan's party theme was Elmo & Friends...

There were some activities for the little ones...
with daddy by his side, Alvis joined in the fun...

Alvis with Keira...

Bubbles... for the little ones to catch..

Alandria and Isaac with Kareen....

Daddy with Alvis...
baby must be wondering how come the bubbles were in the air and not in his bathtub... heehee..

Alandria: Mummy, your fingers are blocking my vision, I wanna catch the bubbles!"

Keira....

Ling with Alvis.. me carrying keira...

My FDIL, swee bo? hehee...

Alvis caught on camera, trying to 'meddle' with Keira's buttons... Ooops...

I can manage 2!!
Haha, though abit hard on my right with Alvis baby....

He super loves to walk around man...
Anyhow walk one... haha...

Then it was snack-time for the kids...
They were seated at the long table with their little chairs...
so cute..
I love this about these venues for kids..
hehe..

Alvis having his share of the biscuit....

With my baby..
I knew he was enjoying himself.. =)
mummy and daddy enjoyed too!

The very nice birthday cake from Pine Garden...

Dinner was at Marina Square.. Imperial Treasure for La Mian and Xiao Long Bao..

He was smiling and laughing at mummy... =) =)

Daddy gave him a piece of ice to play with...

It was a fun-filled day...
I can tell Alvis baby is happy today... =)
I can sense it..
I can feel it...
Because I'm the mummy.... =P hehe...

Okie la, we all enjoyed ourselves today...
Next week is Alvis' turn to host his party after been to so many of his friends'....
